I walked down the hill to the lippett park farmer's market this morning. it's a gorgeous, summery day - 80 degrees, breezy, and not a cloud in the sky.
the takeaway? two HUGE, colorful bunches of rainbow chard (a big personal fave) from arcadian fields in hope valley ($2.50/each = $5); half a pound of narragansett creamery's atwells gold cheese ($8.25); an olive loaf from seven stars ($5.25); and a pound of bomster scallops (worth their weight in gold. hands down the best sea scallops available....anywhere. period.) from block island/long island sound ($15). they vacuum-pack and flash freeze the scallops at sea, so they're never rinsed or soaked in preservatives, unlike anything you'll find in a grocery store. they're so good you can just slice a raw one into ceviche and eat it on the spot. total: $33.50.
